A protected sea turtle nest in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea: From spring to early fall, female sea turtles return to the same beach where they were born to build nests and lay eggs at night before returning to the ocean. Sea turtle walks, where participants learn about nesting habits and efforts to preserve nests, are held through the summer at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton, the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale and at Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park in Dania Beach.
