Meet Ron Levy, 34, and Cintia Pombo, 46, Plantation residents who own a 2020 Concept 32 with twin Mercury Racing 450R Matriarchs.

How did you take up boating?
Since I was a kid growing up in Miami, we went out on a lake at least four times a week to go knee boarding, slalom skiing, wake boarding and tubing. I also had a Sea-Doo, which was tons of fun.

What do you enjoy most?
Spending time together as a family as we have a 9-year-old boy who loves to swim on Florida's beautiful blue waters. We always meet new people and have a great time getting to know fellow boaters.

Recent outings?
We’ve been out doing a lot of poker runs in Cape Coral and Key West. But locally, we usually hang out in Pompano Beach near the lighthouse. We do venture up to Lake Boca and as far south as Billy’s Point down in Miami.

Has the coronavirus changed your boating habits?
It’s prompted us to get out more often, but with less options of fun things to do and no sports for kids. Weather permitting, we get out almost every weekend. As far as having guests on board, we always have an open invite to our friends as great guests make the day that much better.

Favorite places to go in your boat?
Anywhere with crystal clear waters and good people. We love to travel and explore new destinations. One of our recent travels brought us to Kentucky for a charity poker run and we are looking forward to heading back in 2021.

What stands out to you the most about being on South Florida waters?
Have I mentioned clear waters? South Florida has plenty of beautiful waterways and open ocean to explore. We enjoy anchoring out and swimming/exploring new spots.

Must have item during trips?
Drinks, sun block and snacks.

What is the farthest distance you have traveled on your craft?
That would be Fort Lauderdale to Key West. What a  fun trip. It’s a yearly poker run that the Florida Powerboat Club puts on where 160-plus boats travel down from Haulover Marine Center in North Miami. We have participated six years in a row now.

Describe your most challenging experience on the water:
The most adventurous trip was 6- to 8-foot waves and rain so hard that I could barely see past the bow of my 32-foot boat. We made it with no hiccups so it still goes down as a fun adventure. My wife and I both laugh and think of how crazy we were going through it without hesitation.

What would be your dream boat?
Can I have more than one? A 42 Freeman Boatworks with quad Mercury Racing 450R and a 42-foot Doug Wright go-fast cat with twin Mercury Racing 450R.

Best advice to new boaters:
Don’t overspend on your boat, but make sure you go for one a couple feet bigger than what you think you will need, so you can grow into it. Reality is, that will become the perfect size boat for you to learn on and still bring a couple friends along.
